Braces For Kids – Invisalign Teens

Many kids today receive braces. These days, some kids even look forward to getting braces. Braces, in their perspective, signify a milestone that they will soon become teenagers, which is exciting. You as a parent undoubtedly have many inquiries about children’s braces.

Should I get braces for my child?

Today, braces are a more popular treatment choice than they were thirty years ago. This is partly because braces are becoming more socially acceptable. However, there are other reasons that contribute to the rising demand for braces, such as sugary diets and a lack of fluoride.

When Should a Child Get Braces?

The right time to get braces is never set in stone. Orthodontists choose the ideal time to start treatment based on each individual instance. Children can often wear braces between the ages of nine and 14, when they will already have some permanent teeth.

However, braces are typically not fitted until a child is at least 12 years old, has 12-year molars, and has lost all of their primary teeth. This is despite the fact that pediatric dentists and orthodontists urge that children be screened by an orthodontist as early as age seven.

During the screening test, if your orthodontist notices a condition that would benefit from braces, they can take interceptive treatment to stop the issue from getting worse (e.g. a palatal expander).
